Project Profile: KSU Sturgis Library Renovation

Caliber 1 Construction recently completed a comprehensive library renovation on the 4th floor of the Sturgis Library at Kennesaw State University. Serving as a reliable educational facility contractor, our team managed this commercial renovation within an occupied building. This tenant improvement (TI) project required precise coordination to ensure clean, efficient delivery during active campus construction.

Scope of Work: Office Layout Conversion

The primary goal of this project was to transition the floor layout from open-concept meeting spaces to functional private offices to accommodate additional university staff. Our team handled the complete office layout conversion while minimizing disruptions to students and faculty.

Logistics and Coordination:

• Managed an occupied building renovation with no service elevator available.
• Coordinated with onsite staff to safely lift all materials through the building’s exterior during off-hours to eliminate safety hazards.

Interior Upgrades and Finishes:

• Constructed a new administrative breakroom for staff use.
• Installed all-new finishes, including gypsum board walls, durable flooring, and a high-quality acoustical ceiling.
• Integrated custom millwork specifically designed for the new reception and breakroom areas.
• Updated interior signage and applied fresh paint throughout the floor.

Systems and Infrastructure

To support the new layout, we executed essential facility updates to ensure safety, climate comfort, and reliable connectivity.

• Performed a mechanical system upgrade by adding new PIU/VAV units to the existing HVAC system.
• Completed a comprehensive fire alarm system upgrade to meet current safety codes.
• Installed new lighting packages tailored to the updated floor plan.
• Routed new structured cabling to support the technology needs of the new private offices.
