Constructor Magazine Features Caliber 1 Leaders in Conversation About Women in Construction

VILLA RICA, GA. — September 14, 2026 — Caliber 1 Construction leaders Christine McCommons, chief strategy officer, and Chelsea Bowers, director of business development, were recently featured in Constructor Magazine in a story about women building meaningful, long-term careers in construction.

In the article, McCommons and Bowers share two different paths into the industry and discuss the opportunities and experiences that helped shape where they are today.

Experience That Translates

Before joining Caliber 1, McCommons held leadership roles serving the banking, higher education, technical education, health care and senior care industries, along with roles in business development and community engagement.

She eventually realized that much of her experience connected directly to the clients and markets Caliber 1 serves.

“It was a lightbulb moment for me when I realized that I had spent years sitting on the other side of the table. I understood what clients valued, what created trust, and what made partnerships successful.”

That realization changed the way she saw her place in the industry. She began to understand that coming from outside construction gave her a different and valuable perspective.

She also credits the people who were willing to invest in her development — leaders at Caliber 1 who gave her room to grow and helped her build the construction knowledge she needed as her role expanded.

Finding Your Own Place in Construction

Bowers’ path was different. She grew up around construction, but did not initially see it as the start of a long-term career. Over time, as her responsibilities grew, she began to recognize how her strengths and perspective could add value.

“Construction has taught me resilience. Balancing motherhood, deadlines, and the fast pace of the industry challenged me in ways that shaped who I am today.”

While their career stories are different, they share a common ground. Both found opportunities to stretch beyond where they started by being open to possibilities and learning along the way.

Their experiences show that finding your place in construction often begins with recognizing the value of what you already bring to the table. It also requires leaders who see that potential, create opportunities for growth, and give people the confidence to take the next step.
